Are you caring for one or more of your aging parents? This can derail our wellness and add stress and tension to our lives. We often must discuss this with other women to understand that we aren't completely alone. It's also important to stay on track, look after yourself, and deal with the many emotions attached to caring for an aging parent.

Hello, I’m Louise, a wellness coach and a Registered Massage Therapist. Recently, I stepped back from massage therapy, a transition I struggle to describe as “retirement,” as it feels more like I’m being set aside and overlooked. For the first time, I’m not working for someone else or bound to a daily schedule!

Adjusting from a hectic lifestyle to a more tranquil pace has been challenging. For over a decade, I cared for my aging mother, who passed away peacefully at 99 in early 2024. My daughter, now 26, is pursuing her own dreams and ambitions. My partner, Philip, and I are both navigating this newfound time and freedom together. I’m grateful for the close-knit group of friends who support one another as we face new challenges with age.

On the bright side, I’ve finally been able to slow down, read, and relish the freedom of choosing where I want to be. After two decades as a wellness practitioner, I often overlooked my own advice. I realized I needed a routine to adjust to this new chapter. Now, my focus is on aging gracefully, maintaining both physical and mental health, and fully enjoying the lifestyle Philip and I have diligently built.
